Steve Jobs from Apple has recently explained why iPhones and iPads don’t support Flash.
Using Flash as the framework for a website can deliver beautiful visual effects. But there is a penalty to pay when it comes to being search engine friendly.
We have several clients who use our XHTML websites but have some Flash presentations embedded for specific purposes – for example, for animated maps. Using Flash like this doesn’t hurt the site for search engines.
But using Flash for spot graphics means accepting that there will be a gap in the website when viewed on iPads/iPhones. And building a website using a Flash framework means it won’t display in iPhones/iPads at all.
The article by Steve Jobs is well argued. Using Flash for websites is going to diminish in popularity.
