Andrew,

With the site you are using, Trackbacks and Pingbacks will happen mostly automatically.

When creating a post using Wordpress, you can just include a link to another blog post in the body of your post and that will create a pingback. If you have a trackback address from the other post (usually available in the footer of their post), you can include that address in the Trackback field for your post - scroll down under the Edit Post window to find this.

Your own posts publish a trackback address, and when this is used an excerpt will appear in your comments.

Hi Glenn, enjoyed reviewing your SEO post. Having also read your piece under On Page SEO - Optimising your Posts and Pages for Search Engines I feel as though I need to know more about how to most effectively use the Trackback and Pingback functionality that a blog enables. Do you have some general guidance and/or some links to resources that could be useful to get me up to speed?

It's so refreshing to see such a common-sense approach for small businesses. It's in stark contrast to what you see in the mainstream media too often (such as a recent article in BusinessWeek that told small businesses to avoid search marketing and other important techniques--you can read more about that dust-up here: http://www.mikemoran.com/biznology/archives/2008/01/weak_businesswe.html

I publish case studies on my site with success stories in Internet marketing. If you'd like to write this up (along with a happy ending), I'd love to share it with my readers.

Thanks again for such a level-headed approach that any small business could learn from.
