Managed WordPress MU Cluster
WordPress MU is the multi-user version of WordPress. It allows you to have a single WordPress installation (or cluster) that incorporates many individual WordPress sites. Each WordPress site can operate as a subdomain or a domain – regardless, you manage all from your single dashboard.
A Managed WordPress MU cluster includes installation, administration, backup, support and hosting, as well as support for DNS and Themes.
DNS
An OM4 WordPress MU instance comes with DNS management facilities that enable an administrator to:
- create multiple WordPress websites as subdomains
- map subdomain websites to domains
- map domain mail services to Google Apps or custom mail services
- create and administer multiple users
OM4 hosts and runs name servers and DNS that enables WordPress MU to map external domains. You do not need any DNS expertise to use these features.
Themes and self-managed design
An OM4 WordPress MU instance can use the OM4 Theme, as well as up to 3 additional themes you specify.
Each end user website can utilise the self-managed design features of the OM4 theme to deploy their own custom look and feel, with no additional work required by the administrator.

Hosting
Your cluster is hosted on a quality Linux server that runs in a professionally managed datacentre. You can choose to have your website hosted in the US or Australia. You do not need to login to your server, use FTP or Cpanel or manage the technical aspects of your cluster.
Administration
Once your website is setup and installed, an OM4 administrator carries out important ongoing tasks.
Patches and Upgrades. OM4 arranges to install and test patches issued by the software vendors used to run your website. This includes Linux (Centos), Apache, MySQL, PHP and WordPress MU as well as WordPress plugins. Security patches are applied with priority. OM4 assesses and schedules upgrades to deploy new functionality for your website.
Plugins. OM4 operates a core set of WordPress plugins. Not all WordPress plugins are compatible with WordPress MU. New plugins may be requested for inclusion, subject to assessment by OM4.
Security. OM4 hardens its servers using automated hardening scripts to reduce the risk of security breaches.
Performance. OM4 monitors server performance and carries out performance tuning tasks.
Availability. OM4 monitors the availability of websites and takes corrective action to restore service if a website is unavailable.
Backup. OM4 arranges to backup your website on-server every night. Daily backups are held for the last 7 days, weekly backups for the last 4 weeks and monthly backups for a minimum of the last 6 months.
OM4 arranges to backup your cluster off-site to an Amazon S3 account that you establish for this purpose.
Data Recovery. If a fault occurs in your WordPress MU cluster, you may recover data from your S3 backups at any time. If you would like us to restore a backup for the entire cluster or an individual site, we can do this for you as a paid support task.
Support and Education
If there is a fault in your WordPress MU cluster configuration, we fix it free of charge.
We will provide initial guidance to you in how to use the Administration facilities of your WordPress MU cluster. You can ask questions about how to use your WordPress MU cluster on our Forums – responses to forum questions are not charged for.
You can utilise OM4 Webmaster services to carry out specific tasks for you, by the hour.

OM4 administers the following components in conjunction with WordPress MU clusters for an additional monthly fee:

Where licence fees are involved, you (the client) are responsible for purchasing the licence and upgrades, and retain the licence if you move to another platform.
