Link Recommendations
Getting good links to your website helps build its authority. And the higher its authority, the better it will rank in the search engine result pages.
But not all links are equal. Some links are low value, almost worthless. Others are very authoritative. Typically, good links are hard to come by.
What if you had a crystal ball … that could tell you exactly where your competitors - those sitting at the top of Page 1 on Google for my target keywords - get their best links from? Seeing all their links isn’t hard at all - just head over to http://yahoo.com and enter link:mycompetitor.com in the search box. Lots of links probably. But not all links are equal. Can you tell which links are the most valuable for them? And which ones are worthless?
What not to do … There are automated link creation services - you should steer clear of these. At best you will get very little value and at worst you will damage the rankings for your site.
Paying someone to build links for you is potentially a good strategy, but it depends a lot on how they go about building links. Dropping spam comments into blogs is not a good way to do things. Heading out trying to get link exchanges / reciprocal links just for search engine rankings is a waste of time.
Finding a good, relevant website, creating content that is link worthy and then letting the site owner know about the content - that is a far better approach. It is a lot more time consuming, but a single, high quality link is worth a lot more than many low value links.
Getting links from directories can be a good strategy, depending on how relevant the directory is. Some directories are worthless, others can send qualified traffic. Some directories have free listings, and some have paid options. The value of each varies.
