Activating & Using the Testimonials Plugin

Activating and Using the Testimonials Plugin

There are a number of steps to activate the Testimonial Plugin and to display the Testimonial Widget in the Sidebar.

See the Using Testimonials article for more information on Testimonials.

Activate the Testimonial Plugin

  • Login to your website Dashboard.
  • Select ‘Plugins’ from the vertical menu on the left side.
  • This displays a screen with a list of plugins. Find the ‘search’ field at the top right. Type in the word testimonials, and click on the ‘search plugins’ button.
  • A plugin call ‘WP Testimonials’ will display. Click on the word activate.

Add your first Testimonial to the Plugin

  • Select ‘Manage’ in the vertical menu, then select the sub-option ‘Testimonials’.
  • This diplays the screen where you input the testimonial details.
  • Type in the Client Name, Short text (make this just a sentence or two that you extract from the testimonial, if it is long).
  • Type in the Full testimonial text (this can be long), or just repeat the Short text.
  • When you are ready to save, click ‘Add Testimonial’ at the bottom of the screen.

Add more Testimonials

  • Stay on the same screen. Now you see your first Testimonial listed at the top of the page. It has the option to edit or delete, which you can do by clicking either link.
  • Down the page you see the same empty fields where you can add and save more testimonials.
  • Keep adding and saving till your finished!  You can come back to this stage of the process at any time.

Place the Testimonial Widget in the Sidebar

  • Select ‘Appearance’ in the vertical menu, then select the sub-option ‘Widgets’.
  • You see a left hand column headed ‘Available Widgets’ at the top of the screen. You also will see a right hand column headed ‘Sidebar’.
  • Scroll down the left hand column and find the heading ‘Testimonials’. Click on this Testimonial widget and drag it into the right hand list of widgets under the heading ‘Sidebar’.
  • You can put the Testimonial widget wherever you wish amongst your other Sidebar widgets. If you don’t like the first position you choose, you can come back to this stage and drag and drop to reposition the widgets in the sidebar.

Activating this plugin will automatically create a new Testimonials page on which all of your testimonials are listed.  The Testimonials widget in the sidebar includes a link to that page, allowing website viewers to see all Testimonials in full.

In some cases this new page may be automatically added to your site’s navigation menu. If so you have the option to remove the Testimonial page from the navigation menu, or to change where the Testimonial page appears in that menu.  See our reording web pages article for instructions on how to move or hide this menu item.
