Using the OM4 Own Page plugin
OM4 supports a plugin that allows you to offer pages on your OM4 website that can be edited by a page owner.
Examples of this kind of programme:
- Wildlife Tourism Wildlife Premium Pages
- ArtificialEyes.net Ocularist Listings
- Agritourism Australia.com.au Agritourism Premium Pages
Once you have your programme up and running, follow these instructions to add new Own Page users as they sign up.
You have two options as you add new users. You can:
- Give new users a blank page and they can use the WordPress editor to edit their own page – see Scenario 1 below
- Set up a page for new users yourself, and then let them edit that page – read Scenario 1 then Scenario 2 below
Scenario 1: Set up a new Own Page user and blank web page for them
Under Dashboard, Users there is a menu option to allow you to set up a new Own Page user.
This option presents you with the following screen:
Enter the new user’s details and create their user account.
By default, the user will get a blank page that they can then edit. And they will receive an email with the login details and how to get to it.
Scenario 2: Create a new Own Page user and assign them a page you have set up for them
If you want to set up a page for a new user and then just give them access to update it, the process is very similar.
Step 1: create the new page. Do this under your own user account, and place the page correctly (e.g as a sub page of another page).
Step 2: follow the instructions above to create a new user with a small change. This time, copy the draft Email Text and put it into a text editor or use it to create a draft email. Then blank out the Email Text field – if there is nothing in the Email Text field, the system will not send out an email automatically.
Step 3: once you have created the new user, go back and edit their page and change the Page Owner to their account, not yours. View the page and get the full page URL. Copy that so you can use it in your draft email.
Step 4: now go to your draft email. Edit this and add in the correct username, password and URL for the user’s page. Add any other information they may need. Send the email
Where can Own User pages be located?
Anywhere in your page hierarchy. The owner of the page will be able to edit it wherever you locate their page. The location of the default pages – for example, whether they are created as sub pages of a particular page – can be configured using the plugin set up options.
What can the page be called
The page can be called whatever you like – just change the page title and permalink.
