Migrating your website from OM4
This article explains how to migrate your website from OM4 to another hosting provider.
You may make these arrangements yourself using the built-in export/import features of WordPress, and configure your new site as required.
Alternatively, you may request that OM4 prepares a migration bundle for you that includes a custom theme, all of your data/media and relevant plugins. A fee (for 3 hours of OM4 effort) is applicable for this alternative.
To keep your website and email active during the changeover, you should understand and plan for 3 aspects of the move:
- website hosting: arrange alternative hosting for your website
- email hosting: you may need to arrange alternative hosting for your email, or if using Google Apps arrange alternate DNS settings to keep your email operational during the move
- Name Servers and DNS hosting: OM4 hosts DNS for most clients. You should understand how to update your domain name servers and configure appropriate DNS for your website and email hosting requirements.
To plan for your future website, we suggest you consider:
- security: plan to check for and apply WordPress upgrades and WordPress plugin upgrades – WordPress recommends you do this for security reasons
- custom theme updates: if you are using a custom theme, have a plan in place to upgrade your custom theme if and when new WordPress features come out
- backup: plan to back up your website, preferably offsite so you can recover your website using another hosting provider if your data centre goes offline
- monitoring: consider a monitoring service for your website to alert you if it goes offline
OM4 does not provide access to OM4 servers via ftp, cPanel or other means – we are similar to WordPress.com and other WordPress providers who use WordPress Multisite.
