Creating Websites Using OM4

For designers, marketers and copywriters who are using OM4′s platform to create their own websites, this article explains how to:

  • register a domain name and set name servers
  • create an OM4 development website – you can then apply your design to your site and create content
  • set up a Hosting, Administration & Support subscription and map your new site to your domain
  • set up your business email addresses (me@mysite.com)

Designers, marketers and copywriters can create their own sites entirely on their own.

Create your Website

Contact OM4 to arrange an account that lets you create your own websites.

Using your account, go to Dashboard, Domains, New Website and create a new site.
This website, as well as others you have access to, will appear under the Dashboard, My Websites option.

Design and Content

Use the WordPress dashboard to create your content. And the OM4 Site Design options to configure your design (Dashboard, Appearance, Site Design).

Using the Dashboard you’ll be able to achieve a lot. And there are many articles on our How To section that describe how to set up different features for your website.

Map your domain

Log into your website’s dashboard, then click on the Domains option, then the Domain Setup option.

Enter your domain name and save your changes. Your website will automatically be mapped from subdomain to your new domain name.

A domain redirect from your subdomain to your new domain name will automatically be created.

Set up your Email (optional)

We recommend our clients use Google Apps for their email. Using the free Google Apps Standard Edition, you get your business email for free with your own domain email addresses (e.g. me@mydomain.com).

Read our explanation of Google Apps and how to use it for email (and calendaring other useful things).

What happens next?

Once the domain is mapped, it can take 24-48 hours for the update to refresh across various DNS services. So be patient. More information on this process can be found here.

If you are registering a new domain, you can set the name servers well in advance and not have any delay when you are ready to map your domain.

Redirecting pages from your old site to your new site

If you are migrating from an existing web site to a new OM4 web site, it is recommended that you redirect your old pages to their new location. For example, your old www.mydomain.com/AboutUs.htm page may now be located at www.mydomain.com/about-us/.

If you have purchased an OM4 content package, we will set up these redirects for you.

If you are setting up your new site yourself, or haven’t purchased an OM4 content package, we recommend you set up page redirects.
