Introduction to Campaign Monitor
Campaign Monitor is an email marketing tool. It lets you manage lists of email subscribers and send them professional formatted emails.
Here is what email marketing is all about:
- desirable communication: using email to offer something that people want and letting them choose to sign up to receive it.
- opt-in / permission based: only sending email messages that you have been permission to send.
- measurable: being able to measure the effetiveness of your email marketing campaigns.
Here are a few things that email marketing is NOT:
- sending spam or junk mail
- sending unsolicited email
- buying email lists
- high pressure sales tactics
Using Email Marketing
What businesses find is that once they build a verified opt-in list, conversion rates to offers to that list are higher than many other campaigns. Not surprising when you think about it. If you have an email list that sends out information about high quality travel offers AND people have subscribed to that list themselves, it isn’t surprising they are interested in …. high quality travel offers!
Email marketing tools automate the collection and management of your list, including subscribe and unsubscribe features. Most also provide an autoresponder facility, that lets you set up one or more emails that are delivered in a pre-defined order.
Here are two ways you can put your email marketing tool to work:
- Create a newsletter mailing list. Load your current newsletter as the first autoresponder message, so people who sign up automatically get your current newsletter. When it is time to publish a new newsletter, you can broadcast the new one to the current list, and then update the autoresponse message.
- Create a multi-part educational series. Create a group of emails that you want to be delivered 1 or more days apart. Perhaps this might be a 5 part introduction to a product or service that you are expert in. Set up the 5 messages in the auto-responder queue. When people sign up to the list, the 5 messages are delivered automatically, with the delay you specify between each message.
OM4 does not run an email marketing platform, instead we integrate with specialist email marketing tools.

Campaign reports
Here are some of the key report screens in Campaign Monitor. Click on any screenshot to grab it in full size.
Campaign snapshot
See how your email campaign has performed at a glance. Find out how many recipients opened your email, clicked a link, unsubscribed, forwarded your email to a friend and loads more.
Opens Over Time
Our simple Opens Over Time Report shows exactly who is checking out your email, how many times they’re doing it, and when they did it. You can get an overview for the life of the campaign or drill down all the way to minute by minute detail.
Recipient Activity
Our recipient activity report lets you get down to some serious detail on your campaign. Easily see who opened, who clicked, who bounced and who unsubscribed. You can even search for a specific subscriber to see exactly what they did with your email.
Link activity
The Link Activity Report makes it very easy to see what your subscribers found most interesting, as well as who clicked and who did not.
Bounce Summary
As well as automatically processing any bounced emails for you, we also tell you exactly why that subscriber bounced out of your list. Maybe we got an out of office reply, or perhaps their mailbox was full – whatever the reason, they didn’t get your email and we’ll tell you why.
Compare campaigns
Easily compare any of your email campaign with each other. Is your open rate improving? Are you seeing less bounces over time?
