How to Use and Interpret Google Analytics

Setting up Google Analytics

Step 1 is to register with Google.

If OM4 set up your website, we’ll likely have completed the set up for you.
If you don’t have an Analytics account yet, set one up here: Google Analytics Setup

There are a few steps to the setup process, once you have followed the bouncing ball you will end up with an Analytics ID (part of your tracking code) – it looks like this: UA-9843574-1.

Once you are registered Google will collect statistics on who visits your site, where they come from and what they look at.

There are two options for linking your Google Analytics account to your OM4 website:

  1. go to Dashboard, Appearance, Site Design (under 3rd Party Tools section) and enter your Analytics ID (the UA- prefix is provided for you). To see your Analytics, you go to Google.com/analytics and login; or
  2. go to Dashboard, Plugins and activate the Google Analytics plugin, then go to Dashboard, Settings, Google Analyticator and i) enter your Analytics ID (complete with UA- prefix); and ii) click the link to authenticate to your Google Analytics account. Once you’ve completed this setup, an Analytics summary will appear in your main Dashboard, and there is a link to the full analytics interace in the title of the widget.
