Finding Images for your Website

Yellow Sunflower from iStockPhotoThere are a range of sources of free images you can use for your website. We’ve also listed some higher quality sources that don’t cost very much.

Free (with attribution) from Creative Commons

Flickr. Beautiful images. Use the Advanced Search to find images with a Creative Commons licence. You can also specify those that are licenced for commercial use. You will always need to attribute the source of Flickr images available under Creative Commons.

Free and Low Cost

iStockPhoto. High quality images for $2-3. Also a free image of the week that is worth checking. Open an account for access to the weekly free image. Buy credits in blocks (it is around $1.60 USD per credit for a block of 10), the more you buy the lower the cost.

We are a member of the iStockPhoto referral programme, so if you sign up using the iStockPhoto links from this page, when you buy some image credits we earn some image credits too.

Garr has a good set of sources for images – like us, his favourite is iStockPhoto.

And Garr’s list of free image sites:

*If you buy Garr’s book you will find a nice offer for a one off 20% purchase of credits from iStockPhoto as well as 10 free images (from a selection of 50). Not sure how long this offer will stay open for.
