An eCommerce enabled website allows you to accept payments online for your products and services.
OM4 develops WordPress eCommerce websites, mainly using the WP eCommerce plugin. We mostly partner with freelance graphic designers for the design work.
There are several methods for implementing eCommerce on your WordPress website, and they are described below.
Method 1: PayPal Saved Buttons
This method is quick to set up to manage a few different products or services. You don’t need any plugins to use this approach. Instead you create Buy Now buttons in your PayPal account and copy/paste the button in to your website. This will enable you to accept payments via Visa/MasterCard from your website. Examples:
Nick Melidonis
Before doing this, you’ll need to set up a PayPal account, and also head to the OM4 Forums and ask for your account to be configured to allow you to copy/paste PayPal buttons.
Method 2: QuickShop Plugin
Where you have more than just a few products, the QuickShop plugin may come in handy. This plugin lets you use a shortcode to insert buttons into your website without pre-configuring each one in your PayPal account. It allows you to accept payments for products/services (Buy Now), accept Donations and set up recurring subscription payments. Examples:
Auspen Markers
Vegie Bag
Live History
The QuickShop configuration articles below explain to use this option.
Method 3: WP e-Commerce Plugin
Where you have quite a few products and want to have your own product database, the WP e-Commerce plugin may be what you prefer. This plugin provides many advanced features for operating an online store. Some examples:
Bride + Groom Store
My Car Accessories
Forester Estate
Punch Coffee
Conscious Business
We provide instructions on how to set it up and use it, but if you are just starting out you may find you need help to get this going.
Note: when using the WP eCommerce plugin with OM4 hosting, it is treated as a premium plugin and attracts a slightly higher Hosting, Administration & Support fee.
