Integrating Data and Charts with Google Apps
Sometimes you might want to display charts on your website using data you would normally store in a spreadsheet.
OM4 uses Google Apps Standard Edition which means it has access to Google Docs.
OM4 clients already using Google Apps have access to these tools already.
The whale spotting chart showing on this page was created as follows.
1. Used Google Docs to create a spreadsheet to capture the data.
2. In the spreadsheet, selected the data and created a Chart.
3. Clicked the Chart setup button and chose Share
4. Copied the HTML snippet and pasted into this web page below.
If the spreadsheet data changes, the chart automatically updates.
Using Google Docs, you can share a spreadsheet with others. For example, you can make a spreadsheet editable by a specified set of people (via their email address). This could allow you to:
- collect data from a range of shared spreadsheets
- check and merge data
- publish via the web to share the results
This chart is a Line Chart, but there are other chart types to choose from:

Google Docs also lets you use Google Gadgets which provides a wide range of additional display options.
