Creating a Custom Google Map and Adding to your Website
A picture is worth a thousand words, and a good map is worth a thousand pictures!
You can create a custom Google Map that shows points of interest of relevance to your location. For example, Alida from Diggers Rest Station has created a map showing her two week horse trek through the East Kimberley.
Here is a video tutorial showing you how to create a map like this one and add the points of interest: Creating a Custom Google Map
Once you have created your map, you can copy either a link or HTML:
- Link (see the Paste link in email or IM field)
- HTML (see the Paste HTML to embed in website)
If you are running a standalone OM4 website, you can paste the HTML code directly into a web page or post. The map showing above shows how a map looks when the HTML is pasted into a page. This is a link to the same map. If you are running an OM4 community website, you can copy the link to the map and put the link into your post or web page. Alternatively you can send the HTML to us and we’ll place it on the page you nominate at no charge (the HTML uses an iFrame, and for security reasons we automatically filter out any iFrame or Javascript commands before saving). For a tourism website, a map is a great way to show local attractions and tours. Make sure to include all the places your visitors would be interested in, and blog about them as well!
