How to Use Categories and Tags for your Blog Posts

When you write a blog post, you can assign it to one or more Categories and one or more Tags.

Here is the way we recommend you use Categories and Tags for your business website.

Categories

Use Categories to create a Table of Contents for your blog, just like a book has a Table of Contents. Categories groups your posts together logically.

You may find it keeps things easier to understand if mostly put each post in only one category.

How To:

  • Put your Table of Contents on display – use Dashboard, Appearance, Widgets to add the Categories widget to your sidebar.
  • Add new Categories – use Dashboard, Posts, Categories to add/edit your categories, or alternatively use the New Category button when adding a new post

Tags

Use Tags to create your blog Index. This will let people find your content based on the main words used in each post.

Each post can have many tags, just as an article can be linked to many times from an index.

Visitors can see your Tags Page (your Index) by clicking on any one of the tags at the bottom of a post.
