It was originally meant for network providers, but gradually it just fell into general use.  Now it is just the next most popular option if you can't get the .com

I like the idea that .net could be a country however ... and that .net would be your country code domain if you live 'in the cloud'.  That would be cool.</description>

		<description>Those domain names that you mentioned was not a good criteria to discuss.It is something like comparing a rabbit with tortoise. .com is in the root node of the domain tree where .net is the sub classes of it so a marketer can easily come to know that .com is universal and .net is domestic.</description>
