4 Ways to Avoid Losing Your Domain

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Our phone rings, it’s a bewildered client. “My website isn’t working”.

We check. Everything is ok from our end, but the domain has expired which is preventing their website and email from working.

Your domain is your online real estate – an asset. It is the ground on which you build your online business.

You don’t want to lose your asset. Let alone to an opportunistic buyer – possibly even a competitor!

So here are four things to do today to make sure you keep your domain secure.

  1. Make sure that you keep the contact details for your domain registrar, your renewal date and your password somewhere safe, accessible and well labelled.
  2. Put the renewal date in your diary, your partner’s diary and on the office calender.
  3. Explain the significance of your domain to the key people in your business. You want to make sure you are not the only person who understands how important domain renewal is for your business security.
  4. Check that your domain registrar has your current email address for renewal reminders.

As a side note, you can renew or register a domain with a good registrar for no more $15-$25 per year. Some registrars may charge a lot more than this.
